It’s certainly planned, but unfortunately we have a large bunch of other things with higher priority first.
If someone else can write some motion tracking code we can use, it can however speed things a lot. (A requirement would be that the motion tracking is of course Free, but also that it’s not integrated with Aegisub as delivered!) -
Have the color dropper average an area
The color dropper in the Color Picker dialog box can only pick the color of a single pixel off the screen, but if you need to match a big surface on a video you often need to rather pick the average of an area to counter noise.
It should be possible to pick the average of a small area like 3x3 or 5x5 instead of only a single pixel.

MKV attachments
It would be useful if Aegisub could read fonts from MKV's, and conversely use the fonts collector to export fonts to an MKV.

Make Aegisub play video correctly
I'm tired of hearing "Aegisub is not a video player"
Well it's part of the program! Sometimes you NEED to play the video to time correctly. Stop putting the same crappy player in Aegisub, and put something that can play the video correctly without the lag.

As we by 2.1.8 require audio to be loaded for anything to be played, video playback should generally be more reliable. We know it can be annoying to many, but it’s really the lesser of two evils. We would like to hear more feedback on this, however.

Add a grid on the video window to make typesetting easier
Add the possibility to show a grid on the video window. That would improve a lot your precision while typesetting certain things.
Shouldn't be too hard to implement right?164 votes -

Line deletion hotkey - Translation Assistant.
It would be very useful to have a hotkey to delete a line in the translation assistant, because as a TL, I have noticed that one must close the translation assistant to delete a line. Identically, hotkeys could be added in the style assistant.
Thanks a lot.

We are working towards making anything in the program hotkey-able.

Internal Lua-Editor
An Editor for Lua-Scripts as a tool in Aegisub could be very useful to save changes/write new makros faster and create karaoke with an overview over the k-time and raw.

Paste here (before and after)
Just like the right-click menu "Insert (before)" and "Insert (after)", it would be nice to have "Paste (before)" and "Paste (after)".

Open audio range
Load a range of audio rather than the entire stream. This is useful when timing a section the stream is required.

Add an image-editor-like text tool for typesetting
Basically you'd have a text tool in the typesetting toolbar, you click it, then you click somewhere to create a new text (sign/line) there, that you can then edit (font/size/color/etc/etc) in similar fashion that can be seen in image editors like Photoshop and so. Having this and also have it preview changes in realtime would make typesetting signs a lot faster, a lot easier, and overall much, much more comfortable.

Quality Checking mode
It was really useful to have one feature like this.
There would be an option somewhere on "Subtitles" called by "Quality Check” mode.
To illustrate the idea, I did this on Photoshop: http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/5653/aegisubqc.jpg
Features:
- When using this mode, the main text area will load the “Original” subtitles. If the text got modified, it will apply the modifications to the “Revised” box.
- Possibility to add a comment to the revision using the “Comments” box.
- Possibility to add timelines to report external problems (like video-audio sync, typesetting, etc.) or add non-translated lines. The added timelines would be saved with… more45 votes -

Character counter
My mom is taking a translation class, where she needs to follow rules o how many characters per second she can put in the screen to make her assignments, and can't use aegisub because the lack of this feature. She is then forced to use Subtitle Workshop (can you fell the pain?!?).
Usualy there is plenity of space to put it above the text area, besides time and formatation, on the right. The number of characters (with blank-spaces and punctuation) could fit very well there. This should be trivial to implement (I guess), and would let many people be blessed… more

Out-of-bounds Visual typesetting
I've encountered a few situations where it would be useful to do positioning that is simply out-of-bounds (i.e., when you're scrolling text from right to left, and specify negative values for X or Y).
It is possible to do this manually, of course, by inputting numbers until you achieve the effect desired. Still, I thought this might be a nice addition (though admittedly it won't be useful to everyone).
Of course, this should only apply when you 'detach' video, such that there's free black space where the out-of-bounds typesetting markers will be showing.

While the appeal is obvious, unfortunately it would require completely rewriting the entire program, which is not very feasible. Android requires software to be written in the Java programming language, while Aegisub is written in C++, and it isn’t possible to simply translate.
On the other hand, an iOS application might have some feasibility. -

Timing Post-Processor record changes
The make adjacent subs continuous and keyframe snapping functions work by thresholds and it is unknown what lines they will affect until after being committed. If the user wants to review these changes he must compare the scripts through some diff tool and see what lines were changed afterwards.
Instead I think the TPP should record these changes and allow the user to view/revert/edit all changes done. I already have done an implementation of this though it is in no way complete.
My current idea of how it should be done is this:
- TPP should be modeless so the… more38 votes -
